Hello! Let me introduce myself...my name is Amanda Yates and I am 42 years old. I live in St. Clairsville with my husband, Adam, my mother-in-law, and my kids. We have a blended family of six children, ranging in age from 22 to 11 (five girls and a boy). I am in my 11th year of teaching science, which includes six years teaching 8th grade at Bridge Street and five years teaching 9th grade physical science and Forensic science at Licking Valley High School in Newark, Ohio. In addition, I was an x-ray tech for nine years before becoming a teacher. My family and I have recently gone through a really tough time. My teenage daughter was diagnosed with terminal cancer in May of 2013 and passed away in May of 2015 at age 16. This experience has made me a stronger person, a more compassionate teacher, and has given me some invaluable real-life knowledge of the medical field that I can bring into the classroom. Please don't ever be afraid to ask about my daughter, my family, or our experiences...Kacie and my other children are amazing and I am so proud of them! You can see more about our journey at www.facebook.com/prayersforkacie.
A little more about me...in my "free" time, I love to spend time with my family, go camping, go to thrift and antique shops, and watch football. I absolutely LOVE to spend time at my camper and I could spend hours on Pinterest looking up teaching or decorating ideas. I also write a blog called "Life Just Right" and my faith is very important to me. If you would like to know even more about me, check out this slide show I made. I am excited for this year and can't wait to get to know you all!
